The disease of addiction affects each person who suffers from it uniquely. Individual factors such as co-occurring mental health disorders, underlying medical conditions, personal history of trauma, or other stressors can all impact a patient’s needs in rehab and recovery.
That’s why all patients consult with our medical director and lead psychiatrist upon admission to Laguna Treatment Hospital to establish a custom-tailored treatment plan.
At Laguna, patients will participate in individual and group therapy sessions led by licensed practitioners. A variety of therapeutic interventions are used to help our patients address the underlying issues that drove them to substance abuse.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): As part of Laguna Treatment Hospital’s medical detox and rehabilitation program, medication is used to help ease withdrawal symptoms, control cravings, and keep the patient as comfortable as possible during the early stages of treatment. After detox, certain medications may be initiated or continued as part of medication-assisted treatment if appropriate for the patient. Our staff can also help to set up a medication provider for patients after discharge if their aftercare plan includes continued MAT.
Our clinical staff can also provide comprehensive care for a range of health conditions requiring medication, including diabetes, heart disease, HIV, hepatitis, and others.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This evidence-based treatment method allows the therapist to collaborate with patients and encourage them to question and examine their thought patterns to eliminate or replace the unhealthy ones.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Laguna’s therapists use DBT to help patients overcome painful emotions and decrease conflict in their relationships through mindfulness, distress acceptance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal communication.
Motivational Interviewing: Our licensed therapists use motivational interviewing (MI) techniques to meet patients where they are and, if necessary, nudge them from ambivalence about treatment toward a genuine personal desire for changing harmful behaviors.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): This technique used by therapists is helpful in reducing the impact of trauma and other stressful events on a person’s life and behaviors.
Family Support and Therapy: With the patient’s permission, Laguna Treatment Hospital can coordinate family therapy sessions in-person or via Skype. These sessions help to support, reinforce, and strengthen a patient’s recovery efforts.
Group Therapy: Laguna Treatment Hospital’s behavioral health technicians host a range of culturally sensitive groups specifically designed to best support clients of diverse backgrounds.
Alternative Therapies: Holistic healing methods such as yoga, mindfulness training, and meditation are a regular component of Laguna’s programming. Our staff is continuously working to bring new programs such as music and art therapy to the hospital as well.
Recovery Groups: Laguna hosts regular 12-step NA and AA meetings that are open to the community, as well as 12-step alternatives including SMART Recovery and WellBriety.
