Steps Toward Sobriety: Orange County’s Addiction Recovery 5K
If you are misusing drugs or alcohol, just admitting you have a problem may be a difficult first step. That’s why hundreds of people are making great strides, literally, to help eliminate the stigma surrounding addiction.
Laguna Treatment Hospital is sponsoring the Strides in Recovery Orange County Addiction Recovery Walk on Saturday, June 4th. The 5K walk is open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to join, whether you are in recovery or have friends/family members affected, or just want to show your support. Participants will follow a “Path to Recovery” around Mile Square Park.
The Orange County Addiction Recovery Walk is just one of the many ways Laguna Treatment Hospital is working to raise awareness about addiction and promote recovery.
Drug and Alcohol Addiction
If you have a problem with drugs or alcohol, you’re not alone. More than 20 million people in America have struggled with addiction.1
The disease of addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition that can negatively impact how a person thinks, feels, and behaves.1. Only about 10% of people struggling with addiction get help, however, substance use disorders are treatable and research supports that inpatient rehab has optimal outcomes. 1
Recognizing the signs of a substance use disorder can help you or a loved one find the right treatment.
Signs may include:
- Using a substance in higher amounts or with more frequency than originally intended.
- Being unable to control or cut down substance use despite expressing a desire to do so.
- Spending a lot of time obtaining, using, and recovering from the effects of a substance.
- Experiencing cravings, or strong physical or psychological urges to use drugs or alcohol.
- Experiencing tolerance, which is a need for higher amounts or more frequent doses of the substance to experience the desired effects.
- Needing to keep taking substances to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
