Addiction Recovery for Young Adults
Young Adult Addiction Treatment
In our young adult treatment track, we offer comprehensive addiction care for young adults 18-26 who struggle with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
For many young people early adulthood is a time of transition, change, and exploration. As young adults move from adolescence to independence they may experience a range of emotions, from excitement to uncertainty, concern about the future, and shifts in identity. While it’s not uncommon for young adults to begin experimenting with drugs and alcohol during this time, some may turn to substance use as a way to cope with these challenges.

Addiction is a complex condition that can have many causes. Therapy can help people understand the root of their addiction and develop strategies for managing their triggers and cravings.
Therapy can also help people develop coping skills for dealing with stress, anxiety, and other emotions that can lead to relapse.
Laguna’s young adult program uses a combination of evidence-based approaches which include:
- Trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT is a type of therapy that helps people identify and change unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors. CBT can help young adults understand the triggers that lead to their substance use and develop coping skills to manage these triggers.
- Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT): DBT is a type of therapy that helps people regulate their emotions and improve their relationships. DBT can help young adults learn how to manage their emotions without using drugs or alcohol.
- Motivational interviewing (MI): MI is a type of therapy that helps people increase their motivation to change. MI can help young adults explore their reasons for wanting to change and develop a plan for making that change.
