Going to Treatment During a Pandemic | Laguna Treatment Center

The pandemic is here. Who knows when it will end? Other than getting vaccinated and wearing a mask when appropriate and required, there’s very little that an individual can control about the global threat. However, those struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD) or an alcohol use disorder (AUD) can’t wait for the virus to “get under control.” Some individuals need help right now and this immediate attention may save their life.

At Laguna Treatment Center, individuals are welcomed with open arms—even during COVID. Addiction doesn’t stop for an airborne virus, although for this particular one, it seems to have exacerbated the disease of addiction with the rising numbers in those who have relapsed or overdosed between 2020 and 2021. American Addiction Centers (AAC) is the parent company to Laguna Treatment Center and is the leader in addiction treatment with facilities across the nation. We are here to help.

Laguna offers medically monitored inpatient withdrawal management, residential treatment services in a “hotel-like” environment, as well as aftercare planning.

Coronavirus Safety Protocols and Treatment

Laguna Treatment Center established a Health Protection Committee, as have all AAC facilities. The committee is put in place to make sure hygiene and safety measures are consistent company wide. This allows us to have protective protocols in place and a coordinated company response in regard to COVID-19.

Our safety protocols include:

  • Individuals are asked a series of questions regarding travel history, their contact with an individual who has traveled in areas of concern, and possible exposure.
  • It’s not required for an individual to be vaccinated in order to receive treatment. However, if an individual has been vaccinated, they should bring their vaccination cards in order to present them at the time of admission.
  • Laguna offers rapid (same day) testing for the coronavirus, which is great. This allows us to admit patients who test negative to bypass the mandatory period of isolation. Individuals testing positive for COVID will not be admitted. 100% confidential and HIPAA compliant.
  • The facilities are deep cleaned regularly and throughout each day; individuals are asked to social distance, wash hands, and essential personnel (patients and staff) are the only ones permitted to enter the facility.
  • Specialized treatment. Individuals are experiencing anxiety due to the pandemic. Having access to therapists that run groups to address this issue offers hope. AAC provides therapists trained in the effects of anxiety associated with the coronavirus.
  • Staff members who may have been exposed to COVID-19 are asked to isolate themselves for 14 days from the point of exposure. If they experience no symptoms during that time, they may return to work. This helps to keep other staff and patients safe.

Eating healthy, getting vaccinated, and wearing a mask where appropriate and required are actions that are in our control as individuals facing the pandemic. However, individuals battling a SUD or an AUD are facing another threat. Laguna Treatment Center located in sunny California offers an opportunity to help those struggling with the disease of addiction a real chance at living a life of long-term sobriety.
